Steve Morris won his fourth consecutive Provincial Sprint Triathlon Championship in Beresford.

INDOOR TRAINING

The indoor training season at the Aquatic Centre has come to an end. Saturday May 31st was the last swim (followed by indoor cycling and a run outdoors - mini tri). Outdoor training will start the following week.

Also, I had great success with the startup of Masters swimming this year. This will continue next year (on a larger scale) starting around September. Next year the Fundy Masters Swim Team will be attending meets in NB, and possibly NS, PEI and Maine. There will be another small unsanctioned swim meet (before Christmas), and a fully sanctioned Masters Swim Meet (after Christmas) bringing Masters swimmers from around the Maritimes & possibly Maine to compete. Looking forward to next season.

SUMMER EVENTS

This year I have taken on some new responsibilities as I am working with Triathlon New Brunswick as provincial coordinator/coach for Kids of Steel and Junior Development. I am also helping to put together a provincial team to go to Canada Games in 2009 (PEI) with Paul Lavoie (Team Tri NB manager). Any inquiries relating to these topics can be directed to me. I will also be asking for some help in organizing some events throughout the summer to help get kids and adults involved in the sport. Anybody interested in volunteering their time on occasion, please contact me at tricoach@live.com.

GET PAID TO RACE IN 2008

I have had many positive comments about the prize money at last year's Rockwood race, which got me to thinking why should only the top finishers have an opportunity to be reimbursed. In 2008 Bikes & Beans will set up a fund in which any Fundy Extreme member has the chance to get paid to race. We will reimburse half the race entry fee (to a max of $35) for any triathlon that a Fundy Extreme Member finishes and the full entry fee (to a max of $70) for first overall. Now there are some conditions (all of which must be met):

  1. The individual must be a paid member of Fundy Extreme before the race
  1. The Fundy Extreme top must be worn in the race
  1. The individual must finish the event
  1. For 2008, only Triathlons are eligible events (can be anywhere in world as long as verifiable)
  1. The individual must use a bike brand carried by B&B such as Cannondale, Guru, or Fuji (does not have to be purchased from shop) in the race.
  1. The initial budget is limited so applicants are encouraged to fill out an application form at the store asap after the race (once the budget for the season is reached there will be no further payments). See the store for full details. This is a test program and if it goes well there may be room to expand it in the future.
